Embassy
of Finland supports PEI's Iloilo Micro-Hydro Project
The
Embassy of Finland in the Philippines contributes over P2.8 million to
support the development of a microhydro-based village power and
livelihood project in the municipality of Janiuay, Iloilo province.
The project aims to increase a community's access to basic electricity
and hopes to create livelihood opportunities, develop community
empowerment and environmental awareness. As project proponent, the
Preferred Energy, Inc. (PEI) represented by its Managing Director,
Grace S. Yeneza received the check donation from the Ambassador of
Finland to the Philippines, Riitta Resch (shown 1st from right) at the
embassy office in Makati last February 21, 2006. Witnessing the check
hand-over are Second Secretary Elina Poikonen from the Embassy of
Finland (shown 4th from right) and Bert Dalusung, PEI Business
Development Expert. The grant is part of the Finnish Funds for Local
Cooperation in the Philippines which seeks to support cooperation
efforts in the fields of poverty alleviation, social development,
promotion of human rights, good governance and environmental
protection.
